DUI, DRIVING, DEATH and the DESTRUCTION that comes with it – DUI claims the life of a family member

Sadly my boyfriend’s sister (only sibling) was the victim of a fatal drunk driving head on collision just outside of Chicago In July. She and her new boyfriend were hit head on by a drunk driver just after 11pm after returning from a date. He died on the scene, she died later at the hospital. They had recently started dating. “Life was good” she had told us over the phone one week prior.

The drunk driver had a blood alcohol level of .25, three times the legal limit. The equivalent of 6-8 drinks. At age 55 (one year older than me), the drunk driver was a successful corporate trainer in the field of mental health and self improvement. Based on her social media she was YOUR solution to a better life both individually and corporately. She was beautiful, graduated cum laude, was a popular sorority sister and had a list of accolades one could only be proud of.

I’m not here to shame or judge this woman. She obviously had/has her own demons. Lord knows I’ve been there, driven after too many cocktails. I was the Fireball queen. In 2019, when my life was imploding, I prayed for God to take away my desire for alcohol, and thank God he did. Because of the horrific circumstances I’ve been through in the last 4 years with gaslighting, narcissist abuse, stalking and parental alienation, Lord knows if I still drank I would be sh*tfaced every night to get through what I’ve had to go through.

3 times the legal limit means she possibly drank 8 cocktails, or 2 bottles of wine. That’s ALOT of alcohol. I doubt she was drinking alone so who let her drive? Aren’t bartenders and restaurants responsible and/or conscious of an obviously drunk patron? Somebody must have seen her try to get into her car drunkenly? Was there no UBER?

Again, I’m not here to shame or blame this woman. Lord knows in my 54 years (43 of those drinking-yes I started when I was 11) I’ve driven way too many times when I shouldn’t have. Thank GOD I did no harm to anyone. But today this woman who had the world at her feet wakes up everyday now having taken the lives of 2 vibrant, young, innocent victims and is facing 2 counts of vehicular homicide, and possibly the rest of her life in prison. We hear she may also be paralyzed.

If this post this holiday weekend makes one person be a designated driver, tell their buddy “no more”, “I’ll call you an UBER” and a bartender or waiter stop serving a customer even though they are “uncomfortable”for doing so, then I’ve succeeded in why I posted it.

Such a preventable destruction of so many …
