I’ve deemed myself “The Freelance Nanny.” I “babysit“ children for folks who are in town visiting on the mid coast of Maine to attend weddings, family reunions, work conferences.
I swoop in like Mrs. Doubtfire with my basket of old fashioned fun (ride on stick horses, musical instruments, crafts, frisbees, etc) and conduct “Camp Leianne“. I also require them to do “chores“ like the laundry, washing their parent’s car, doing the dishes and cooking. They absolutely love it.
One of my favorite gals was 4 year old “Fancy Filippa”. She created a ficticious breakfast restaurant where she whipped up sophisticated fare – popovers, organic pancakes always saving me some when I arrived at 10 AM.
I used to work for Sotheby’s as a luxury Broker where I helped clients buy million dollar houses with restaurant quality kitchens, Viking stoves, SubZero refrigerators, warming drawers, etc.
I was excited for them to cook at home with their family in these beautiful kitchens until they said “We don’t cook. We DoorDash.”
It would break my heart for the missed opportunity for them to bond and “waste time” with their kids.
