“IF YOU STOP” DOING “YOU’LL STOP “BEING”.

In October 2021, I moved from big city life in Hotlanta to the mid-coast of Maine. Immediately I signed up for what I called “No more heels on wheels”. I delivered a hot meal once a week for “Meals on Wheels” to rural farms/owners.

I had the best time. It was my favorite day of the week. I had between 8-16 recipients, most were in their late 80s. One of my favorites was 99 and he was still mowing his lawn and shoveling the driveway.

They were simple, humble folks who lacked attention from the outside world. Their kids, grandkids, and family weren’t always local and they were lonely. Some lived in homes that had been condemned but they had no place to go. Others were still on their family’s original farm/homestead from the 1800’s.

I made such great friends. They may not have had anything of worth in terms of monetary value, but getting to know them was so valuable to me. I knew no one and I developed great friendships with these older folks. There’s no secret to living long … it’s simply “don’t ever stop “living” which means “doing”.
