Just prior to his death in 2018, in his late 80’s, my father, a former commander in the Navy, 25+ year employee for Eli Lilly and a popular pharmacist for 30+ years was now broke.
Less than 2 years prior, he was proud of the $250,000 he had in his bank account. His 8 children (including myself) had to do an “intervention” because he would not stop becoming a victim of every “you need a new roof (he just had one installed less than 5 years prior), solar panels (his house was shrowded in forest) or “Grandpa, this is your niece Ashley, I’m in jail in Canada, can you send me money?”
My advice – monitor your older parents like a Hawk-even if they tell you “This is why I never liked you!” – my father’s exact words to me when I had to get tough with him during our “intervention”.
